How to choose a candle as a gift: a simple guide
1 November 2026

A candle is one of the easiest gifts to get right. It's useful, it looks lovely on a shelf, and it doesn't need to fit. The trick is picking a scent they'll love and a size that suits the occasion.
Step 1: pick a scent family
Think about the smells they already like.
- Warm and cosy: Cozy Spice is the one for people who love cooler evenings, a good book and the smell of something baking.
- Fresh and breezy: Sun and Salt suits beach lovers and anyone who likes a clean, open-window kind of scent.
- Floral: Garden Rose is a soft, romantic rose for bedrooms, dining tables and flower lovers.
Still can't decide? The Discovery trio has three 50g mini candles, one of each scent, so they can find their own favourite.
Step 2: pick a size
- A small thank-you: a Mini 50g tin.
- A birthday or housewarming: a Small 100g tin or a Classic 200g amber jar.
- Someone who burns candles every night: a Large 340g frosted jar.
Not sure which size? Our guide to candle sizes explains the difference.
Step 3: let it arrive looking good
Every Cocoflame candle is hand-poured and finished with wax flowers on top, so it already looks like a gift. We post anywhere in Australia. See shipping for times and costs.
A tip for the card
Add a line about how to do the first burn: let the wax melt right to the edge so it burns evenly. It's the one thing most people don't know, and it makes the candle last.
