What is coconut soy wax? A simple guide to the wax in our candles

Every Cocoflame candle is hand-poured with coconut soy wax. If you've seen the phrase on candle labels and wondered what it actually means, here's a plain-English guide.

What it is

Coconut soy wax is a blend of two waxes made from plants:

• Coconut wax, made from coconut oil.
• Soy wax, made from soybean oil.

Candle makers blend them because each brings something different. Soy wax gives the candle its body, and coconut wax helps make the blend soft and creamy.

How it differs from paraffin

Paraffin is the wax in many mass-produced candles. It's made from petroleum. Coconut soy wax is made from plant oils instead, which is one reason many people choose it.

What you'll notice

• A soft, creamy look in the jar or tin.
• A smooth surface that's lovely for sitting wax flowers on top, which is how we finish every candle.
• A melt pool that can spread right to the edge, if you give it a proper first burn.

Looking after a coconut soy candle

Softer waxes like this one like a little care. Keep your candle somewhere cool and out of direct sun when you're not burning it, trim the wick to about 5mm before each burn, and keep burns to 3 to 4 hours. Our candle care guide covers the rest.
